Representation Theory, BAUDRILLIARDS

Baudrilliards theory is a postmodernist theory.
He argues that representations no longer signify the real thing, instead the representation has become more real to us than the reality and has actually replaced it.

His concept consist of hyperreality, simulation and simulacra.

Hyper-reality; reality has been replaced by simulacra (representation of something). The division between real and representation has collapsed.

Simulacra, a sign loses its relation to reality, then begins to stimulate a simulation.

Simulation, a representation of something goes to replace the thing which is actually being represented.

In terms of music videos, this theory is used when new music uses samples of old music within their songs. This can be seen in many songs, but one example is the sample of ‘Gypsy Woman’ By Crystal Waters 1991, was used in ‘Talk To Me Now’ by Nick Brewer 2015.
